“As President of Sierra Leone, my top priority would remain the nation’s security and unity because, without security, no one can accomplish anything. Without peace among the populace, there can be no significant advancement. I have seen youths who were of productive age misusing their skills due to a lack of interest and direction. My campaign team and I have observed an apparent unanimity of abandonment resulting from governmental failure across the country. I saw poverty everywhere, but I also saw untapped talent, improperly used energy, vast arable land and nation’s future diamonds and other minerals. I am thrilled by what I saw across the country in the people’s zeal for something different; people who are suffering but are hopeful about tomorrow”, he said.
The Carter Center is a nongovernmental organization that helps to improve lives by resolving conflicts, advancing democracy and preventing diseases.
