In a bold and history-making attempt, renowned Sierra Leonean journalist, photographer and reality TV personality, Joy Gborie, has embarked on a 168-hour interview marathon, aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the longest interviewing session. The ambitious feat is currently taking place at the New Brookfields Hotel in Freetown and is drawing attention from across the country and beyond.
Dubbed “The Joy Gborie,” she has long been a recognizable face in Sierra Leone’s media landscape. With this record-breaking attempt, she now seeks to etch her name into global history. Over the course of seven days, Gborie plans to conduct interviews with 154 guests from a wide array of backgrounds, shining a spotlight on the diversity, talent, and innovation present in Sierra Leonean society.
“This is more than a personal milestone,” said Gborie. “It’s a challenge for Sierra Leone. Let’s put all hands on deck.”
So far, Gborie has interviewed influential personalities from the media, entrepreneurship, entertainment, and hospitality sectors. The event has transformed into a celebration of Sierra Leonean excellence, with each guest sharing unique insights and experiences that reflect the vibrancy and potential of the nation.
Joy’s goal goes beyond simply setting a new Guinness World Record. Her larger mission is to use the platform to promote national pride and amplify the voices of her fellow Sierra Leoneans on a global stage. By conducting marathon interviews with a broad spectrum of participants, she hopes to tell the untold stories of resilience, creativity, and ambition within the country.
The interviewing marathon is free and open to the public, and Joy has invited all Sierra Leoneans to come witness the historic event and lend their support. “Your energy and encouragement keep me going,” she remarked during one of her sessions. The public’s turnout has been steady, with supporters taking time to cheer her on and celebrate the remarkable journey she is undertaking.
The extraordinary challenge follows in the footsteps of fellow Sierra Leonean record-breaker, Mary Yongai, who made headlines for completing 111 makeovers in just 24 hours — a feat recognized by the Guinness World Records.
Joy Gborie’s effort stands as another powerful reminder of the country’s growing presence in the international arena, especially in the creative and media sectors.
As the marathon continues, eyes remain fixed on the New Brookfields Hotel. Whether or not she ultimately breaks the record, Joy Gborie has already succeeded in uniting the nation behind a message of hope, determination, and global recognition.
Her journey is one of stamina, vision, and national pride — an inspiring testament to what Sierra Leoneans can achieve when given the platform and the belief to shine.
If successful, this event will not only mark a major milestone for Joy Gborie but also a proud moment for Sierra Leone, further cementing its reputation as a rising force in media and cultural innovation on the world stage.
