Traffic Officer PC 17152 Mariatu Kargbo attached at Congo Cross Police Station, on Monday 17 July 2023, as she was on duty came in contact with one fake police Inspector along Aberdeen Road, Freetown, by the name of Julius Batilo Condor and arrested him.
In her testimony before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Court No 3 on Thursday 27 July 2023, said, she recognized the accused and recall on the 17 July 2023, whiles on duty along Wilkinson Road-Aberdeen Road, Freetown controlling traffic, she spotted the accused with an Inspector rank but the uniform did not match.
She furthered that, she called the accused and asked him if he is a police officer?
He answered in the affirmative, but she further asked him which police station is working for?
He answered Central Police Station and further asked him as an Inspector he answered yes.
The arresting Officer P/C 17152 furthered that the accused was without police beret and his hair was bushy.
The witness said she put it to him that he is not a police officer.
He was about putting resistance, when he told her to go to the corner to talk.
She interrogated him with several questions until she call for his arrest and taken to the station where investigations continued and was charged with a count of impersonation contrary to Section 3 of Cap 34 as amended by Sub-Section 4 and 5 of the Personation and Uniform (Amended) Act 13 of 1975.
Particulars of the offence, the accused Julius Batilo Condor on Monday 17 July 2023, along Aberdeen Road, Junction, Freetown, under that assumed character was found in full a police uniform without lawful authority.
There was no legal representative for the accused and he was sent on remand at the Male Correctional Center in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to the 2 August 2023. Sergeant 9155 Dwight Macarthy is prosecuting the matter.
