Sierra Leone’s music industry has been thrown into a state of frenzy following accusations made by popular artist Frank Samza Serry, they call am Samza. In a recent Facebook live, Samza labelled his fellow Sierra Leonean artists as hypocrites when it comes to the issue of Kao Denero, one of the country’s most prominent musicians.
Samza’s comments have sparked a heated debate on social media platforms, with supporters of various artists coming out to defend their favourites while others criticize them for their alleged hypocrisy.
According to Samza, Sierra Leonean artists have been refusing to show the respect Kao Denero deserves because of the hatred minds they have for him. Samza accused them for supporting upcoming or young artists to disrespect Kao just because it’s him. The hip hop star went on to name artists that have disrespected Kao. Among the names he mentioned were Drizilik, Kracktwist, and Mendes. He said, the big name artists have failed Kao for not standing up and speak the truth.
Samza’s comments have been met with mixed reactions. Some people agree with him, while others feel that he is just trying to stir up controversy to make himself relevant especially when he has new song featuring Kao Denero titled “Distinction”. Regardless of the opinions, it is clear that the debate has opened up important discussions on morality and the music industry in Sierra Leone.
For now, it remains to be seen whether Samza’s accusations will lead to any action or change in the industry. However, there is no doubt that he has brought an important issue to the forefront, and the country’s artists and music fans must continue to engage in constructive discussions that can help the industry grow and thrive while upholding the country’s values.
