The Parliament of Sierra Leone through the Committee on Appointment and Public Services chaired by Hon. Mathew Nyuma has on Monday 5 August, 2024 at Committee Room 1 during an interview commended Fatmata Sawaneh, Asma James, Ing. Andrew Kelly and other Presidential Nominees for their exceptional and outstanding contributions to the society.
As one of the critical parliamentary proceedings before approval, these presidential nominees were very fortunate to receive wealth of praises from the Chairman and Honourable Members of the Appointment Committee, serving as a greenlight for their possible approval to undertake their new positions of trust.
During the interview, the Committee was however thorough in investigating and examining the presidential nominees, especially with their assets declaration and their capabilities to make progress in their new mandates.
Presidential nominees such as Fatmata Sawaneh and Ing. Andrew Kelly were very fortunate to receive the Chairman and Deputy Chairman immune protection from being questioned by Hon. Members of the Committee. Their immense and outstanding contributions to the party, to the grassroots, and the country at large attracted the Chairman and Deputy, giving them the permission to go immediately after investigating their assets declaration.
Madam Fatmata Sawaneh Deputy Ambassador Designate to the Republic of Guinea in a press interview expressed that the bilateral relationship between Sierra Leone and Guinea is already there and assured to further strength the good ties. Madam Sawaneh expressed her confidence in being a well-known person in Guinea, as she further emphasized her ability to speak 80 percent of all languages in Guinea. On that basis, Madam Sawaneh expressed how easy her work would be, and also expressed assurance of working with the Ambassador she referred to as brother and bring more progress in the country.
While having her interview with the Committee, the Deputy Ambassador Designate to Brussel Madam Asma James also received wealth of commendations from the Chairman and cut across all sides of the Committee. The Chairman of the Committee Hon. Mathew Nyuma expressed that Asma James had been doing very well in the media landscape of Sierra Leone and humorously informed her that it was their time to interview her, recalling how she had been interviewing them on 98.1 Radio Station. The Chairman commended her for surmounting challenges in her nominal position where she was able to establish another institution on her own and urged her to keep doing her best.
The Radio Star and Women’s Leader in several platforms, Asma James, attracted the commendations of all the women in the Committee. The President of the Parliamentary Female Caucasus Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay expressed great confidence in Asma James recalling her leadership prowess and informed her of her diversion to the political world. Hon. Kadie Sesay wished her well and encouraged her to keep pressing harder and continue making the women of Sierra Leone proud.
Another outstanding Presidential Nominee, Ibrahim Turay, Ambassador Designate to Dakar Senegal was also interviewed and received praises for his contributions to the society. As he is going to a Francophone country, the Nominee was questioned in French to ascertain his level of proficiency in the French language. The Hon. was perceived as someone returning to a place similar to his home and great confidence was bestowed on him to influence development in Sierra Leone.
The Ambassador Designate to Dakar Senegal Ibrahim Turay was informed on some of the inhuman treatments illegal migrant Sierra Leoneans have been subjected into in other African countries which Senegal is not an exception. The Deputy Opposition Leader II Hon. Aaron urged Mr. Turay to go and serve as protection to his compatriots and leverage on the opportunities in Senegal and foster development in Sierra Leone.
