On Tuesday, 12th November 2024, UMU Jalloh made her first appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No.1, facing one count of Larceny in Dwelling House, contrary to Section 13(A) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The particulars of the offence state that on 1st November 2024, Jalloh unlawfully entered the dwelling house of Binta Barrie, located at No. 19 Carlton Carew Road, off Wilkinson Road, Freetown.
During the incident, Jalloh stole several items, including five assorted sets of lappas valued at NLe 3500, a cotton kappa valued at NLe 800, a long yellow dress valued at NLe 2500, a Woodie lappa valued at NLe 3000, a set of lappa valued at NLe 3000, a Samsung Galaxy A15 mobile phone valued at NLe 7000, assorted jewellery valued at NLe 36,800, a pair of black gold slippers valued at NLe 500, and cash totaling NLe 10,000. The total value of the stolen property amounted to NLe 57,000.
When the charges were read to her, Jalloh pleaded guilty to the offence.
The Led Prosecutor, M K Taylor, requested a short adjournment as one of the witnesses in the case was absent. In response, Magistrate Kekura refused to grant bail, citing the seriousness of the charges. Jalloh was remanded in custody at the male correctional center in Freetown.
The case has been adjourned to Monday, 19th November 2024, for further proceedings.
