As we prepare to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of ECOWAS on May 28, we are thrilled to enhance the visibility of ECOWAS interventions in Sierra Leone, particularly by reaching remote communities like Bonthe Island, in the Bonthe District —a location of historic significance to West Africa.

This effort aligns with His Excellency, the President of Sierra Leone’s development agenda, as outlined in the Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP) 2025-2030, and with the ECOWAS Vision 2050: “A fully integrated community of peoples in a peaceful, prosperous region with strong institutions, respect for fundamental freedoms, and a commitment to inclusive and sustainable development.”

In this spirit, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Madam Kenyeh Barlay, together with her team and the ECOWAS Representative to Sierra Leone, Ambassador Haroun Moussa, embarked on a journey along the Jong River to engage with the people of Bonthe Island. Our mission is to raise awareness about ECOWAS interventions, better understand the community’s critical development needs, and identify potential projects that can foster long-term growth and prosperity.
