The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) has engaged with the Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MOICE) to discuss the full transfer of the National Records and Archives Department from MTHE to MOICE, following a Cabinet decision on a submitted policy proposal.
The meeting that was held on 18th July, 2025 between the two ministries provided a crucial platform to clarify the implications of the transition, outline the new policy direction, and assess administrative and operational readiness to ensure effective records management across government.
Under the National Records and Archives Policy, records and archival functions will now be consolidated within MOICE. This strategic move seeks to centralize records management and implement a lifecycle approach, ensuring proper creation, maintenance, and preservation of national records.
The transition demonstrates the Government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening information governance frameworks and enhancing institutional efficiency for improved public service delivery.
