On Tuesday, 19th November 2024, 66-year-old Daniel Alpha appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 to answer to charges of Conspiracy to Defraud and Causing Money to be Paid by Fraud, contrary to the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the prosecution, the accused, between August 2024 and Saturday, 19th October 2024, conspired with unknown individuals to defraud. It is further alleged that he caused Francis Aiah Ngandemah to pay the sum of NLe 177,500 to one Ibrahim through fraudulent means.
When the charges were read and explained, Mr. Alpha pleaded not guilty to both counts.
The lead prosecutor, Superintendent of Police 3379 Balley T., requested a short adjournment, citing the absence of key witnesses.
Magistrate Bangura granted bail to the accused in the sum of Le 200,000.00 with two sureties of equal amount. The court stipulated that the sureties must be responsible citizens, residents of Freetown, and possess fixed abodes. Bail approval is subject to the court’s discretion.
The matter has been adjourned to 4th December 2024 for further proceedings.
