The Head of Media of the Sierra Leone Police, ACP Brima Kamara, has said in Freetown that seventy-two (72) people were arrested and two reported dead on Monday, 11th September, 2023.
ACP Kamara made the disclosure while updating the media on the Monday, 11th September, 2023 protest at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education’s weekly news conference hosted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Conference Room, Tower Hill, Freetown.
The Police Spokesman informed that among the seventy-two protesters, four were also arrested at Goderich, sixty (60) at Waterloo and eight at Mount Aureole in Freetown.
He furthered that all suspects are currently in custody helping the police with their investigations. ACP Kamara disclosed that the cause leading to the death of the two is also under investigation by the police.
Abdul Karim Will, Spokesman, Office of National Security, informed journalists that the Monday, 11th September incident across the country has been reported as under control and calm by the security sector.
He also disclosed that normalcy was restored on Tuesday, 12thh September, following what he called ‘Monday madness by some individuals’.
Abdul-Karim Will also added that before the 11th September protest, the security apparatus engaged commercial transport owners and drivers, motorbike and tricycle riders’ unions on the need for peace and other related matters.
