By Musa Kamara
In a recent visit at Moiba-Mambaridge community at Constituency 120, Ward 419, east of Freetown, it was apparently discovered by this medium that the foot path leading from the bottom of the community to the hilly residences is in a very bad shape and to make it worst, one can see the visible signs of a mudslide in the making.
In an interview with the Councilor Solomon J. Kamara alias Mamayo of Ward 419, he emphatically mentioned that the road leading to his constituency and ward has been in a very bad shape for a very long time.
He said that it is always a disaster during the rainy season when cyclists, motorbike rider with passengers do fall and in some cases, pregnant woman are victims of such incidents.
He disclosed that the Moiba-Mambaridge community has a population of over 42,000 and it is the responsibility of the Government of Sierra Leone to provide such infrastructure -roads that would swiftly connect his community to other communities.
He explained that they as community members have been making moves by mobilizing youth groups to help patch-up the roads and such effort is visible at the entrance of the community.
However, he admitted that road maintenance comes at a very great cost and as community members they could not afford such a cost. Mr. Kamara therefore, called on Government and other donor organizations to help them with better roads, adding, “Better roads lead to development.”
It is empirical to note that the community is in urgent need of good roads. The constituency has scars of a possible disaster due to poor drainage facility, bumpy road path, and an under resourced peripheral health unit, etc.
