Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh of the Republic of Sierra Leone today Wednesday 9th December, 2020 revealed government remarkable progressive actions towards the eradication of COVID-19 and its imminent provision of social protection for the disadvantage in the midst of enormous social-economic challenges.
In his keynote address at the Inter Agency Meeting held at the Wizard Hotel, Dambala Road, Bo, the Hon. Vice President reiterated that the Bo meeting was to take stock of what government have achieved and lessons learnt during the COVID-19 period in order to create a new pathway for social protection in the country. He said that the provision of social protection is consistent with Sustainable Development Goal 1.2 and the Mid-Term National Development Plan of President Bio’s New Direction government.
*“Within the context of government’s COVID-19 intervention we had implemented the Quick Economic Response Macroeconomic stability program which had social protection as one of its seven pillars. Under it, Government provided accessed to the tune of USD50 million to stabilize prices and ensure that enough foodstuff was in the country” he averred.*
He further disclosed that Sierra Leone is one of the 4 countries certified by the US CDC as safe to travel to, as a result of the aforementioned measures to mitigate the pandemic.
VP Juldeh Jalloh concluded that government is now working with development partners to mobilize resources for strengthening health care provision, agriculture, micro enterprise and social protection in the country.
