The President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Thomas Daddy Brima, accompanied by his Acting General Secretary Mohamed Benson Bawoh, has today Sunday July 30 actively represented the country at the 2023 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone A Ordinary General Assembly in Banjul, The Gambia.
The said annual meeting came after Brima was recently appointed to serve as Chairman of the WAFU Finance Committee.
In his submission, Brima assured the zonal football administrators of his committee’s commitment to disburse finance, with support from the Executive Committee, only in the best interest of football development.
He disclosed to Congress that, “As a committee, we are satisfied with the zone’s current financial position and therefore think we are ready to start rolling out all proposed activities to keep the game very much alive within the zone, following Congress approval”.
President Brima informed the WAFU Zone A Membership that his committee, in their inaugural meeting, have started discussions around revenue generation mechanisms to avoid absolute reliant on FIFA and CAF funds.
“Relying solely on funds from our parent bodies will be counterproductive to the pace at which we all want the game to develop within the zone”.
The SLFA President’s submission brought about thunderous applause by members, in agreement with his laudable and unique idea shared.
