The Magistrate Court at Waterloo in the Western Area Rural District is setting the pace for justice in the country to the admiration of litigants and court attendants.
This was evidenced on Tuesday 4 June 2024 when Magistrate Ladonette Macauley imparted a wealth of knowledge in the court officers for criminal prosecution and junior lawyers in the area of civil proceedings respectively. Without anger, Magistrate L. Macauley calmly and carefully corrects junior lawyers on procedure within the expected time of the court without wasting time.
Another ability she is admired for is her skills as an architect of the law in maintaining standards in giving verdict as fast as possible. She can satisfactorily deliver rulings or judgments close to ten cases in a day and this makes litigants very pleased with her in Waterloo who need urgent and immediate redress in court.
Magistrate L. Macauley can strike wrong charges and fix short dates for amendments to expedite the process, she also directs junior counsel to pay attention to proper procedure which she emphacises, can help them greatly by the time they find themselves at the High Court. So, she encourages junior lawyers to make various applications in court to build their confidence as she always says ‘If you what you are saying is right, then say it with confidence’.
Police officers for prosecution and lawyers for complainants are put on their toes for correct charges and sections mentioned from law books. Reading of such sections as against the charges is common for her or the counsel mentioning those sections making her court a reservoir of knowledge and learning.
