Public Notice
5th August, 2024
The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority wishes to inform the general public that it has seen and heard a voice note making rounds on social media instructing all consumers of electricity that during their meter upgrade exercise, after inputting the first 20-digit number, they should wait for 5 seconds before inputting the second set of 20 digits.
The Authority wants the public to note that the information contained in this audio is misleading and unfounded and therefore, should be totally ignored. However, the Authority is calling on all consumers of electricity to upgrade their meters through the following steps:
- Procure electricity tokens from EDSA and any of the aggregators (Q-cell, Orange, Africell, Dycar, Lynx, vend tech, and Mercy Holdings).
- Input the first 20 digits and wait for 15 seconds.
- Input the second 20 digits and wait for another 15 seconds.
- Input the last 20 digits and observes the face of the meter. It will show you ‘02’ and then ‘successes, before displaying your total token purchased.
Once a customer completes the above process, it is an indication that his/her meter has been upgraded to the second generation of tokens.
EDSA further advises customers to discountenance any information that does not come from a person accredited to do so and to further verify by calling 672 or WhatApp 077672672.
