As a way to commence this year’s Sierra Leone premier league, the Sierra Leone Premier League has gotten it new Board Chairman after the departure of Victor Lewis as Board Chair.
The Executive Committee of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has appointed Magistrate Mark Ngegba as the new Chairman of the Premier League Board (PLB) for the 2024/2025 Sierra Leone male Premier League season.
This decision comes in the wake of the SLFA Executive Committee’s rejection of the earlier reappointment of Victor Lewis to the same role. In a statement, the Committee clarified that the authority to appoint the Premier League Board, including its chairperson, rests solely with the Executive Committee, as per the SLFA Statutes 2019 (amended).
“We would like to state clearly that the members of the Executive Committee of SLFA, who hold the sole mandate based on the SLFA Statutes 2019 (as amended), to appoint the four officials to serve in the Premier League Board, including the chairperson, have in a letter dated 25th September 2024, written to the President, rejected the appointment of Mr. Victor Lewis as the Chairman of the League Board,” the Committee’s disclaimer read.
Magistrate Ngegba now steps into this role of overseeing the management and operations of the upcoming league season, tasked with ensuring a competitive and well-governed league that upholds the highest standards of football governance, integrity, and fair play.
Meanwhile, the legacy of the previous administration still casts a shadow; the Premier League Board has yet to disburse the championship prize money to champions Bo Rangers and runners-up Bhantal FC for the 2023/24 Leone Rock Premier League.
This delay persists despite significant financial backing, including an $80,000 brand sponsorship deal from Leone Rock Metal Group and a Le2.9 billion (Nle2.9 million) government’s support to the previous Premier League Board under Victor Lewis’s tenure.
