ActionAid-Sierra Leone Women’s Forum recently organised a retreat aimed at fostering professional and personal development among its female staff. The event, which brought together women from various departments within the organization, served as a platform for connection, collaboration, and mutual support.
The retreat focused not only on the professional growth of the participants but also highlighted the importance of physical and mental well-being. As the world continues to face complex challenges, the event provided a safe and supportive environment for women to engage in discussions that were both empowering and nurturing.
One of the key moments of the retreat was a session with the Executive Director of ActionAid- Sierra Leone, Foday-Bassie Swaray. In his remarks, Swaray expressed his unwavering support for the women in the organization, encouraging them to embrace every opportunity for growth and self-improvement. “As women, you are an essential part of our progress, and your contributions are vital to our success as an organization. It is my commitment to ensure you receive the support you need to excel, both professionally and personally,” Swaray said.
He also spoke about the organization’s ongoing efforts to achieve gender equality and the strides ActionAid-Sierra Leone has made toward creating a more inclusive workplace. “Gender equality is not just a policy; it is a core value that we uphold in all our work. We are dedicated to ensuring women are provided with equal opportunities to thrive and lead,” Swaray added. His words were met with appreciation from the staff, many of whom felt encouraged by his leadership and dedication to their welfare.
The retreat also featured the induction of new members into the Women’s Forum, further expanding the network of women supporting each other within the organization.
The ceremony served as a reminder of the growing community of women who are committed to fostering gender equality and creating a positive work environment for all.
Throughout the retreat, there were various sessions designed to equip the women with the tools and resources necessary to succeed in their personal and professional lives. Topics covered included women’s rights, mentorship, and shared learning with other women’s forums from ActionAid branches in different countries. The sessions were designed to inspire the women to take on leadership roles, advocate for their rights, and continue breaking barriers in their respective fields.
Mentorship was also a key topic, with experienced women within the organization sharing their knowledge and offering guidance to those newer to the workforce. The mentorship discussions provided valuable insight into navigating challenges, advancing careers, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
As the retreat came to a close, participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to connect with one another and gain fresh perspectives. Many of the women left feeling recharged, empowered, and inspired to continue making strides in both their professional and personal lives.
The event was a testament to ActionAid-Sierra Leone’s commitment to the advancement of women within the organization, ensuring that they not only succeed but thrive in their careers and beyond. It also reinforced the idea that when women support and uplift each other, they can achieve great things both individually and collectively.
