In a bid to promote digital transactions and enhance customer convenience, Afrimoney and Chicken Town on Friday, June 27, 2025, launched a joint promotion titled “Pay with Afrimoney and Get Free Delivery.” The launch event took place at Chicken Town Headquarters on Old Railway Line in Freetown.
Running from June 27 to July 31, 2025, the promotion is designed to encourage the use of mobile money and improve food delivery services across Freetown, especially during the rainy season when demand for home delivery typically rises.
Speaking at the event, Afrimoney Marketing Director John Konteh described the partnership as a step toward deepening the use of digital financial services in Sierra Leone. He noted that the shift toward cashless payments aligns with global financial trends and offers safer, faster, and more convenient ways to transact.
“Today, there are around 2 billion registered mobile money users globally,” Konteh revealed. “This growth reflects the increasing trust in mobile financial services.”
He pointed out that mobile money usage in Sierra Leone, particularly in the Western Area, has surged in recent years. Citing 2024 data from the Ministry of Finance, Konteh said Freetown has reached 100 percent mobile money penetration, meaning nearly all mobile phone users in the city now rely on mobile money accounts for everyday transactions.
Konteh explained that the partnership with Chicken Town fits Afrimoney’s broader strategy of making mobile money the default mode of payment in various sectors, including food services.
“We’re aiming for at least 2,000 Afrimoney-powered food orders through Chicken Town by July 31,” he said. “This is not just about free delivery — it’s about making Afrimoney the go-to platform for safe, convenient payments.”
Through the promotion, customers who place an order with Chicken Town and pay using Afrimoney will enjoy free delivery. To participate, customers need to call 392, place their order, and complete payment via Afrimoney. Once the transaction is confirmed and the delivery location is shared, the food will be delivered at no extra cost.
Konteh also hinted at Afrimoney’s plan to roll out similar offers with other businesses in the coming months.
“We’re in talks with other brands to introduce comparable digital payment incentives across Sierra Leone,” he said. “Chicken Town is the first of many steps toward creating a national mobile money-driven ecosystem.”
Also speaking at the launch was Nathalie Mansaray, Marketing Lead at Chicken Town. She shared her excitement about the partnership, emphasizing the brand’s focus on innovation and improved customer service.
“At Chicken Town, we’re committed not just to serving delicious meals but also to creating value-added experiences for our customers,” Mansaray said. “This collaboration with Afrimoney brings us closer to that goal.”
She added that the offer is particularly timely as the rainy season sets in, making it harder for customers to visit physical outlets. By offering free delivery through a cashless payment model, Chicken Town hopes to increase both customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
“This initiative is a core part of our 2025 strategy, which includes expanding our delivery network and introducing more digital tools to enhance convenience,” Mansaray said. “We’re looking forward to more collaborations and even more creative offers soon.”
Mansaray concluded by encouraging customers to take advantage of the promotion, noting that it reflects a broader transformation in the food service industry driven by mobile technology and changing customer expectations.
With Sierra Leoneans increasingly embracing digital solutions in their daily lives, the Afrimoney-Chicken Town promotion stands as a clear example of how businesses can adapt to meet modern consumer demands. The initiative is expected to drive up mobile payment usage, reduce the reliance on cash, and elevate the overall customer experience.
As the rains pour down in July, Freetown residents are urged to stay dry and satisfied by calling 392, paying with Afrimoney, and enjoying free delivery from Chicken Town straight to their doorstep.
