The Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone and Chairman of the Police Council, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, on Friday, 30 January 2026, officially commissioned the Freetown East Regional Police Headquarters.
The colourful ceremony attracted a high-powered audience, including the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu, the Freetown East Regional Commander, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Brima Kanneh, senior officers of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), and other distinguished guests.
Delivering his keynote address, Dr. Jalloh commended the Sierra Leone Police for their sustained commitment to professionalism and effective service delivery. He described the newly commissioned headquarters as a clear demonstration of the Government’s resolve to strengthen law enforcement institutions and enhance policing standards nationwide. The Vice President emphasised that improved infrastructure remains critical to boosting operational efficiency, coordination, and public confidence in the police.
The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. David Fortune, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing effective oversight and supervision to ensure improved service delivery. He also applauded the leadership of the Sierra Leone Police for their continuous efforts in maintaining peace and security across the country.
In his remarks, Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, expressed profound appreciation to His Excellency the President and the Police Council for their unwavering support. He noted that the modern facility would significantly enhance operational effectiveness, administrative efficiency, and overall service delivery within the Freetown East Region. The IGP further encouraged police personnel to occupy and utilise the building with a positive mindset, professionalism, and dedication to duty.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Regional Commander, AIG Brima Kanneh, described the commissioning of the headquarters as a historic milestone for the region. He assured stakeholders that the facility would be responsibly managed to promote discipline, professionalism, and effective policing in line with the vision of the Sierra Leone Police.
The ceremony was climaxed by the cutting of the tape, unveiling of the commemorative plaque, and a guided tour of the facility, marking a new chapter in the operational capacity of the Freetown East Regional Command.
