The Abdul Aziz Islamic Foundation this past Sunday 23 March 2025, held its 13th annual Iftar donation of bags of rice at the Coco-nut Farm playing field at Blackhall Road- eastern part of Freetown.
The foundation donated over 100 bags of rice to various Mosques (masjids).
Some of the beneficiary communities included Quarry, Ginger Hall, Ashobi Corner, Adolphus Street, Kissy, Rokel, Yams farm, Race Course, Blackhall Road, Benz Garage and Waterloo.
Each Masjid leader and community members warmly received the gesture.
The gesture aims to support families in need during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Speaking at the donation ceremony, the Chairman- Board of Directors of the Abdul Aziz Islamic Foundation, Mr. Abdulai Kamara, a retired lecturer at FBC.
Mr. Abdulai Kamara welcomed all and sundry to the 13th annual Iftar program to various Masjids and communities.
He said it is not the first, nor the last, and they would continue to provide for the poor and needy.
Mr. Kamara explained that the organisation is registered in the United States and in Sierra Leone, noting that they have embarked on many developmental projects including the construction of bridges, and a 100-bed hospital in Kambia.
He said the organisation has over the years donated text books to various institutions of higher learning including FBC, College of Medicine and Allied Science, Law School, Umar Bun Katab Islamic College, primary and secondary schools.
He continued that the organisation has acquired land in Waterloo for development purposes.
In his welcome address the CEO of the Abdul Aziz Islamic Foundation, Mr. AA Sahid Kamara, through a virtual message from the United States, welcomed the Imams and community stakeholders.
He highlighted the development programs the organisation has undertaken.
He said plans are currently underway to organize a training course for bloggers, but such arrangements are now at the IMC.
The Chief Imam of Tauba Masjid- Blackhall Road, Sheikh Mohamed Bangura, offered prayers for the organisation and the CEO Mr. Kamara.
The Imams offered prayers for the organization’s continued growth, and pledged to keep the foundation in their prayers.
Prior to the distribution of bags of the rice, the foundation earlier re-opened the Kissy Brook bridge, which was constructed in 2018 but was in bad shape, a reason the foundation rehabilitated and handed it over to the community.
During the handing over, the Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Saidu Kamara spoke about the culture of maintenance as the bridge is owned by the community; therefore, they should take care of it.
Earlier, two prominent Islamic Scholars, Sheikh Ibrahim Kargbo of Kissy Brook Mosque, and Sheikh Alie Kargbo of Cro-Jimmy Mosque, delivered a lecture on the significance of Iftar.
