Adonkia Hall wins 2005 MMTU Sports Meet

Adonkia Hall (Yellow) with 318 points, Thursday 10th and Saturday 12th April 2025, won the 2005 Inter-Hall Track and Field Athletics Sports Meet of the Milton Margai Technical University held at the (MMTU) Sports Grounds, Goderich in Freetown under the Distinguished Grand Chief Patronage of Hon. Sidi Mohamed Tunis, a Pujehun District Sierra Leone People’s Party Member of Parliament, who also presented the trophy to the winning Hall, Adonkia.  

Lakka Hall won the Best Behaved Hall trophy.

In second position was Juba Hall (Blue) with 312 points, Lumley (Green) with 272 points and Lakka (Red) with 253 points.

Addressing staff, guests and athletes, the Distinguished Grand Chief Patronage, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Tunis commended the Vice Chancellor and Principal for the honour, and revealed that he has served as Member of Parliament for 20 years; and that he wishes to move to the next level in the next three years, revealing that his tenure as Speaker of the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) ended in May last year.

He also affirmed that as a unifying activity, sports brings people and nations together, that sports is a business and wealth creation entity all over the world with immense benefits, noting that some of the athletes at MMTU would become top stars, and appealed to them to take sports very seriously.

Hon. Sidi Mohamed Tunis also urged the athletes to be determined, reminding them that they can do it, and assured that he would remain a partner of MMTU.

He disclosed that he has visited other universities like Njala, IPAM and Fourah Bay College, and promised to visit MMTU again for something very beneficial.

He further encouraged the students to visit him in Parliament anytime.

Presentation of a Thank You Card and T-Shirts to Hon. Sidi Mohamed Tunis by the Dean of the Brookfield Campus, Madam Aminata Bangura, formed a highpoint of the sports meet.

Highlights of the event were the procession of athletes and officials, opening address by the Vice Chancellor and Principal, Professor Philip John Kanu, oath taking and lighting of the Olympic Touch and University Flame, the Tug of War Final for men and women, 100 meters for men and women, invitation relays for schools, inter-community invitation relays 4×100 meters, and inter-schools’ invitation for men and women.

Others were 100 meters MMTU Alumni/men and women, and invitation relay for college-men and women.
