Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella will join leaders from across Africa and the world at the African Economic Global Convergence 2025 to be held at the United Nations Headquarters and The Yale Club of New York City.

Dr. Yumkella, widely known as KKY, will attend as both a featured speaker and an award recipient. He is expected to share Sierra Leone’s story while presenting bold ideas on how Africa can secure peace, strengthen its economies, and attract the right investments for sustainable development.

The African Economic Global Convergence is an influential platform that brings together policymakers, investors, and innovators to explore practical solutions for the continent’s most pressing challenges. This year’s discussions will focus on building resilient economies, fostering regional stability, and creating environments that appeal to ethical and impactful investment.

For Dr. Yumkella, the event is another opportunity to leverage his global experience for the benefit of Sierra Leone and Africa. Over the course of his distinguished career, he has earned international respect for his ability to connect people, countries, and ideas. His work has often gone beyond speeches, centring on tangible action that delivers results for communities.

From rural development initiatives to youth empowerment programs, Dr. Yumkella has consistently championed opportunities for the next generation. His leadership style is built on collaboration, inclusivity, and a belief that sustainable progress requires both vision and effective implementation.

At the United Nations, where he served as Director-General of the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and later as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All, Dr. Yumkella advocated for clean energy access, industrial growth, and innovation as key drivers of development. These roles cemented his reputation as a bridge-builder between Africa and the international community.

This September, when he steps onto the stage at the African Economic Global Convergence, global stakeholders will be listening closely to his perspectives on how Africa can chart a path toward prosperity that is both inclusive and environmentally responsible. He is expected to highlight Sierra Leone’s potential in sectors such as renewable energy, agriculture, and human capital development, while also emphasizing the need for peace and political stability as foundations for investment.

Dr. Yumkella’s participation also carries a symbolic weight for Sierra Leone. As the country faces complex economic and social challenges, his presence at such a high-profile gathering signals the potential for stronger international partnerships. It is also a reminder that Sierra Leone’s voice can carry influence on the global stage when represented with clarity, competence, and integrity.

Looking ahead to the 2028 general elections, many observers see Dr. Yumkella’s continued international engagements as part of a broader vision for national leadership. While he has not formally declared his candidacy, his growing prominence and track record suggest that Sierra Leone will have the opportunity to consider a leader with both global stature and deep local commitment.

In New York this September, KKY will not only represent himself but also the aspirations of millions who want to see Sierra Leone thrive in an interconnected world. His message will be clear — Africa’s future depends on leaders who can turn experience into progress, and Sierra Leone is ready to be part of that transformation.
