Africell Sierra Leone last Friday received with pride and honour the returning home the Sierra Leone Volleyball team who had defeated Senegal in The Gambia in the company’s boardroom at Wilberforce in Freetown. The team is popularly known for winning and bringing glory to Sierra Leone.In a brief statement prior to the conferment of medals to the athletes, Africell SL Corporate Affairs Officer, Joe Abass Bangura recalled that the journey to the current peak of the Sierra Leone Volleyball team has come a long way. He thus encouraged all to continue to celebrate the team for representing Sierra Leone in what he described as a very keenly contested international competition.

He reflected on Africell SL’s support to the team in previous years, and registered further commitments towards motivating the team for subsequent commitments at local and internationally levels.  Volleyball he observed is being the high ranking sport in Sierra Leone and profusely thanked Ahmed Kanou and his team of coaches for his leadership and for bringing the Sierra Leone National Volleyball team this far. A success story he said all must share as a nation. To the players, Bangura reassured that there is a lot to share with the talented skills which is worth celebrating. “It is a big thing that we have to celebrate especially to defeat Senegal,” he said.

Highlighting Africell SL’s support to sport and National Volleyball in particular, Media Manager, John Konteh informed the athletes of the company honours to them with medals and cash to their various Afrimoney accounts. He thanked the coach and the entire federation for their collective support to the team, expressing desires that the Sierra Leone National Volleyball team will always go as winners and return home as victors.

Ahmed Kanou on behalf of the federation said the team has not and will never let Africell SL down, vowing to sustain ties with the company. He said they are always out in search of talented players to further develop their skills and ideas.  Kanou recalled that it was not an easy task to get the team to its present peak.

Team coach Sorie Kamara described their victory as the biggest struggle ever to partake in the group in The Gambia, narrating that they went and returned by road, which positioned the team in a self-motivated side having gone through the struggle they were faced with. He said that they were able to defeat Senegal due to their determination backed by self-motivations.

“We have a package for the country. Our team is no longer a participating one but competitive side reckoned with. I am now receiving accolades from everywhere across the world.” He said and thanked Africell SL for the support. The presentation was climaxed with the announcement of cash transfers to the Afrimoney accounts of players and the awards of medals.

Africell SL as part of its corporate social responsibilities is also popularly known across the board for its consistent to all sporting disciplines in the country.
