As the long-awaited general elections is just a skip to catch, worrying signs continue to grip the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party East District Executive.
The said worrying situation FORUM was reliably informed is being generated from the East District and National Executive decision made in awarding symbol to a candidate that is far from the choice of constituents of Ward 418, Constituency 120 covering Cox Street, Nicol Street, Television Pole, Rose Street, Blackhall Road, Cassel Farm and its environs.
Sources intimated the FORUM that Samuel S. Kanu, commonly known as Chairman Kolorie was indisputable the people’s choice.
Kabba Sesay, a Media and Community Activist, in an interview with FOFRUM disclosed that the decision of the National and East District Executives of the main opposition APC to award the councillor symbol to one Ibrahim Conteh commonly known as (Toesman) was a surprised to majority of party members and supporters.
Justifying the reason for surprised, the Media and Community Activist said Toesman never made public declaration for the symbol, unlike Chairman Kolorie, who did his declaration in front of the residents of the East District Chairman, Mohamed Kamara (Med-Kay).
He continued that the people’s choice, Chairman Kolorie had ushered developments and educational assistances both to government, government assisted and private schools in the community.
According to Samuel S. Kanu, he had waited patiently and worked diligently for the past fifteen (15) years for the APC come rain or shine.
“I was also in a good working relationship with the Ward, Constituency and the entire East District Executives of the party,” Samuel S. Kanu told FORUM.
He noted that he decided to pitch tent with the incumbent Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), because of the injustice mated on him by the APC.
I am of the strongest conviction that political opportunity should not be concentrated to a particular family or lineage. From the look of things, it seems that the APC party does not need me regardless of my contributions to the party and community at large, he expressed his dissatisfaction.
He accused the East District Executive of the manipulation of his chances for the symbol because of financial and material benefit.
He vowed that such decision would cost the APC negatively come polling day.
Receiving Kanu in his party the SLPP East District Chairman, Manso Dumbuya, this FORUM was also reliably informed, welcomed the defected former APC member into the SLPP. Chairman Dumbuya referred to Samuel S. Kanu as “The Game Changer” that he noted will help the SLPP change the voting patterns in the East District, perceived as the stronghold of the main opposition APC.
He described Chairman Kolorie as an all-rounder and a useful political material for SLPP, that he said the party will use to achieve its aims and objectives before, during and after the elections.
“We will use Chairman Kolorie to increase the SLPP votes and usher development to the many deprived communities in Kissy and its environs, SLPP East District,” Chairman, Manso Dumbuya promised.
News about Chairman Kolorie’s defection to the ruling SLPP spreads like a bush fire in the dry season within, around Kissy community and in the entire Western Urban.
His defection had and continues to raise serious concern over allegation of commercialization of political symbols hanging over the heads of the APC East District Executive, by rejected, disappointed members and supporters whose candidates were denied the party symbols.
Hard hearted supporters of Chairman Kolorie mobilized themselves and led a public demonstrated in front of the APC’s East District Chairman, Mohamed Kamara (Med-Kay), with regards to why their candidate Samuel S. Kanu was denied the opportunity to serve as councillor of Ward 148. The aggrieved former APC members and supporters vowed to follow their politician Chairman Kolorie to the SLPP because it him they trust.
