The Director of Operations of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Assistant Inspector General-AIG Braima Jah has at a press conference warned the public over illegal demonstration in the country.
AIG Braima jah made this statement whistle addressing the press on Wednesday 23 August 2023, at the Police Headquarters, George Street, Freetown.
According to the AIG, they had an intelligent that some set of people intend staging illegal demonstration on Friday 25 August 2023, disclosing that those set people have not met the police for clearance or whatsoever.
He noted that demonstration is legal in Sierra Leone, however, if people want to demonstrate they must follow the legal procedures to stage any kind of demonstration in the country.
He reminded the media about the relevant sections of the law that speaks towards demonstration that he noted requires individuals to write the Inspector General stating the motive behind the demonstration, otherwise, the demonstration will be consider illegal.
Maybe others want to demonstrate in favour so if they police is not around it will create problem,’ he noted.
He furthered that the Police will not seat and watch certain individual or group to make the country ungovernable for not only the government, but also the people of the country as a whole.
Irrespective of the status of the individual, they will surely try to enforce the full force of the law on any individual that go contrary of the law.
The Police doors are open to the public always without any need for consultation fee to talk or see any officer, not even the Inspector General.
He said everyone has right to do what you want to do, but there are responsibilities that follow such rights.
Therefore, he noted, no one has absolute right in the country.
‘No right is absolute in the country, so people must be mindful of their rights because there are restrictions and limitation to every right in the country,’ he noted.
He assured everyone that the general security of the country is cool and calm so people should go about their normal business.
