On Saturday, August 10th, 2024, the Albert Academy Alumni Association launched the eagerly awaited Inter-Class Gala Competition at the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Academy conference room.

This event is a key highlight of the ongoing celebrations marking the 120th anniversary of the Albert Academy, drawing alumni, members of the press and sports enthusiasts together to honor the school’s legacy.

The atmosphere was colourful, with class banners prominently displayed, symbolizing the pride and tradition of the Albert Academy.

It was a joyous reunion for Academicians, both past and present, who gathered to commemorate the milestone anniversary of their alma mater.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Bismarck Coker, President of the Albert Academy Alumni Association, officially launched the 2024 Inter-Class Gala.

He stressed the importance of unity and camaraderie among alumni, noting how these values have been pivotal throughout the school’s 120-year history.

Mr. Coker also highlighted the critical role young Academicians play in driving the continued growth and excellence of the Albert Academy.

During his speech, Mr. Coker unveiled other key activities planned for the 120th-anniversary celebrations, including a Sponsored Walk, an Africana Service, a “Back to School” event, and Foundation Day, which will be held under the distinguished patronage of the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Dr. Julius Maada Bio.

The celebrations will also feature a Musical Jamboree, ending with a Thanksgiving service on Sunday 6th October at the King Memorial United Methodist Church, followed by a match-past.

Representatives from various class groups echoed Mr. Coker’s sentiments, expressing their determination to claim victory in the competition.

The friendly rivalry between classes set the stage for what promises to be an exciting series of matches, showcasing the competitive spirit that has long been a hallmark of the Albert Academy.

A significant moment during the press conference was the donation of SLE 20,000 from the Class of 2006 towards the pavement project—a key initiative in the Alumni Association’s strategic plan.

This contribution highlights the enduring commitment of alumni to the development of their alma mater and aligns with the broader objectives of the 120th-anniversary celebrations.

The competition began with entertaining opening matches.

The defending champions, Class of 2011, narrowly lost to the Class of 2014 in a high-scoring match that ended 4-3.

The Class of 2012 secured a 2-0 victory over the Class of 2018, while the Class of 2010 triumphed over the Class of 2017 in the final match of the day.

Academicians and fans are encouraged to attend these matches, held on Saturday and Sunday over the next month, ending in September.

All games will take place at the SLFA Pitch, Kingtom where the school spirit and pride of the Albert Academy will be on full display.

This Inter-Class Gala Competition is more than just a series of football matches—it is a celebration of the enduring bond and shared history that continue to unite all those who proudly bear the Albert Academy name as part of the 120th-anniversary celebrations.
