A swift operation by the Sierra Leone Police has led to the arrest of two suspects following a reported robbery incident along the Bo–Kenema Highway near Sidikie Lane in Bo City. The suspects, identified as Alusine Maroof Kanu and Gabriel Turay, were apprehended shortly after the crime was reported Thursday, May 22 2025.
The victim, Madam Mariama Jeneba Jayah, a resident of Mendewa Layout, Lawabu Section- Bo, was reportedly attacked and robbed while traveling along the busy highway. She quickly alerted the police, prompting an immediate and intelligence-driven response from officers attached to the Bo East Division.
Within hours of receiving the report, the police launched a targeted operation in the area, which led to the successful arrest of the two suspects. Both men are residents of Namya Section, a nearby community in Bo. According to police sources, the operation was based on credible intelligence and swift coordination among patrol units in the area.
“The suspects were intercepted and taken into custody thanks to timely information and the vigilance of our officers,” said an official from the Bo East Division. “Community members also played a key role by cooperating with law enforcement and sharing vital leads.”
The arrested individuals have since been transferred to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) South for further investigation and possible charges. The CID is expected to conduct detailed interrogations and gather evidence to establish the full circumstances surrounding the robbery.
While police have not yet disclosed the items stolen during the incident, investigators are pursuing leads that may link the suspects to other recent cases reported in the area. Authorities believe the arrests may help curb rising concerns over highway robberies along the Bo–Kenema corridor, a major transport route in the southern region.
Residents of Bo City have expressed relief over the prompt action by the police and have called for increased patrols along the highway, especially during early morning and late evening hours when travellers are most vulnerable.
“This incident is a wake-up call. We are thankful for the police response, but we also urge continued vigilance,” said one community member from the Sidikie Lane area.
The Bo–Kenema Highway is a critical link between two major cities in the south and east of Sierra Leone, often used by traders, commuters, and transport operators. Any disruption to its safety directly impacts economic and social activity in the region.
The Sierra Leone Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of citizens and travellers. They continue to encourage the public to report any suspicious activities and to work with law enforcement agencies to enhance community safety.
As the investigation progresses, the police have assured the public that they will provide updates and pursue justice for the victim. The case of Madam Jayah is expected to proceed to the courts once the CID concludes its preliminary investigation.
