In a bid to foster unity and resilience within the Kenema District Women’s Cooperative, Madam Adama C. Kallon- the Eastern Regional Coordinator, has assured members that operations would commence fully by February.
Kallon’s remarks come in response to ongoing controversies, including allegations of embezzlement against her regarding funds disbursed during the cooperative’s launch in recent months.
Speaking to journalists, Kallon addressed the accusations directly, labelling them as unfounded and a result of misunderstandings between herself and certain members of the cooperative. “These claims are nothing but a ploy to tarnish my reputation and that of the cooperative,” she stated firmly.
Kallon emphasized her commitment to preserving the integrity of the organization, declaring her intention to remove those she termed “rotten eggs” from the cooperative.
The allegations emerged amidst internal divisions within the cooperative, with some members reportedly harbouring close ties to the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party.
Kallon pointed out that such a political affiliation could be a contributing factor to the discontent, stating that some individuals appear more interested in causing discord rather than promoting the cooperative’s mission.
To address such issues, Alhàji Musa Tarawally, the Chief Executive Officer of the cooperative, has taken a decisive stance, warning against any actions that might lead to division or conflict within the organization. “Unity is crucial for our success, and we cannot allow negativity to disrupt our goals,” Kallon reiterated, citing Tarawally’s commitment to a collaborative approach moving forward.
Turning to the future, Kallon expressed optimism about the cooperative’s potential to thrive despite the current turmoil.
She reassured members that Tarawally remains dedicated to secure financing for the cooperative before the end of the upcoming month, which would enable them to kick-start operations as planned.
In a heartfelt acknowledgment, Kallon also called for prayers for the well-being of Tarawally, who is currently facing health challenges. “We wish him a speedy recovery as his leadership is vital for our cooperative,” she expressed, highlighting the collective responsibility of the members to support each other during trying times.
Kallon concluded by urging all members of the cooperative to remain calm and focused on their shared goals. “Together, we can overcome these challenges and build a strong, united cooperative,” she said, reinforcing her belief in the organization’s vision and the dedication of its members.
As the Kenema District Women’s Cooperative prepares for its relaunch, the road ahead remains uncertain. However, with Kallon’s call for solidarity and Tarawally’s financial commitment, there is hope that the organization can navigate obstacles and emerge stronger than ever.
Members are encouraged to rally around their cooperative, ensuring that its core mission of empowerment and development continues to flourish amid adversity.
