Prominent businessman, philanthropist, and All People’s Congress (APC) stalwart, Sheik Mohamed Ormodu Kamara, popularly known as Jagaban, has called for unity and visionary leadership within the APC to address Sierra Leone’s pressing economic and social challenges. Speaking at a gathering organized by the APC New Pathway Movement, Jagaban emphasized the importance of reconciliation within the party and empowering the country’s youth to lead transformative change.
The event, chaired by Mohamed DeeDee Bangura, brought together Sierra Leonean community members and APC supporters in the U.S. to discuss the party’s future and reflect on issues back home. The initiative was aimed at fostering peace within the APC and bolstering its position as a formidable opposition force.
Jagaban underscored the critical need for peace and reconciliation within the fractured APC, asserting that only a united party could deliver meaningful change to Sierra Leone. “The only way out is peace and unity. A strong force is the key to achieving glory,” he stated. He urged party stakeholders to work collaboratively to rebuild trust and position the APC as a vehicle for national development.
Highlighting the struggles faced by ordinary Sierra Leoneans, Jagaban expressed deep concern about widespread poverty and economic hardship. “It pains me to see people going to bed without proper food. We need leadership that prioritizes the well-being of the people,” he lamented. He criticized the current regime for corruption, injustice, and ineffective governance, calling for urgent reforms to improve living conditions.
Jagaban also stressed the importance of empowering young people, describing them as vital to shaping a brighter future for the country. “Young people have the power to change the face of Sierra Leone. We must support them and give them the tools to lead,” he said.
Reflecting on his personal contributions and family legacy within the APC, Jagaban shared how his late father played a significant role in defending northern communities during a turbulent era. “My father’s dedication to the APC inspires me to do everything possible for this party and our people,” he noted.
He also highlighted his own success as CEO of a multimillion-dollar enterprise employing over 400 people, more than half of whom are Sierra Leoneans. “I believe in giving back. My mission is to transform lives, not to take from them,” he affirmed.
The APC New Pathway Movement, led by organizer Miracle Dumbuya, described Jagaban as the ideal figure to unify the party and inspire a new direction. “We chose him for his personality, conduct, and unwavering love for Sierra Leone. We believe he has the leadership qualities our country needs,” she said.
Husainatu Jalloh and Matha Koroma echoed similar sentiments, praising Jagaban’s service and calling for a collective effort to strengthen the APC.
In closing, Jagaban called on Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad to contribute to national development, emphasizing that unity within the APC is the first step toward achieving broader progress.
The event concluded with a call to action for all APC members to work together, end internal divisions, and focus on a shared vision for a prosperous Sierra Leone.
