Over fifty opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Members of Parliament (MPs) have Wednesday 8th February 2023 thrown their weights behind the flag bearer aspiration of Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara at Committee Room Number One, Parliament Building Tower Hill Freetown.
The MPs said they will support Dr. Samura Kamara as the next APC flag-bearer to contest in the approaching June 24th presidential elections.
Chairman of the endorsement ceremony Hon. Salieu Osman Sesay said that their endorsements will encourage others to join them in supporting Dr. Samura Kamara became the President of the country, as they have gone through a lot under the current regime. He added that they have done well in their little ways to show citizens what they can do as representatives of the people.
Hon. Sesay said their Parliamentary Leader, Hon. Chernoh R.M. Bah has been a good leader and that they always believe in the leadership of Dr. Samura Kamara since his selection to lead the party in 2018. “Dr. Samura Kamara has carried himself very well and have paid more respects to our various communities which gave us the strength to overcome all hurdle”, he said, adding that as representatives in parliament, they will do exactly what the grassroots have stated, by endorsing Dr Samura Kamara for June 24 elections.
Dr Unpha Koroma from Western Area Urban said they were in parliament to sound the opinions of the grassroots by giving their support to Dr Samura Kamara, and that it was right for them as representatives do their endorsements for the upcoming elections.
Hon. Alusine Alu Conteh from the West-West expressed profound appreciations to Dr Samura Kamara for all he has done and reassured him of their collective support. Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara from Kambia said the country’s economy need to be changed by the leadership of Dr Samura Kamara. He added that since he left the Ministry of Finance, things have been difficult for citizens.
Hon Lahai Marah of Falaba said tribalism should not have it way in the APC, adding that Dr Samura Kamara deserves to be a flag bearer for the party and that they will continue to stay strong and supportive to the party because of the leadership of Hon Bah.
Leader of the opposition, Hon Bah commanded his colleagues for the support given so far which shows that they are united.
He said the endorsements displayed democracy as all APC MPs spoke the heart of their delegates.
In his statement Dr Samura Kamara expressed appreciations for the support given and their expressions, stating that the prosperity of the APC is assured because they have been able to stay as one party.
He said that to be an opposition is a privilege and that the most important thing to do is to serve the people as servants.
Dr Samuar Kamara said politics is the most disturbing factor in the lives of humans and that so many events have been unfolded from all angles.
“The journey to 2023 is not as simple as we all can see it, we need common endeavours and unity as a party the APC should seize the advantage to develop the country especially in areas that have been neglected.
