Dear Sir,

LETTER OF CONCERN

I am writing this letter as a member of the APC party, the first leader of a campaign that trickled the review of the 2005 APC Constitution, the first Secretary to the APC Constitutional Review Committee (CRC), the Secretary to the 21 Man Committee that facilitated the adoption of the current constitution of the party and a Sitting Member of Parliament representing Kambia District. In such capacities, without the foggiest of doubts, I see myself as a moral guarantor in defending the constitution of the party and to remind the leadership of the party about the sanctity of the rule of law and the need to uphold the sacred principles in the APC 2022 Constitution.

I write to bring to your attention certain ardent concerns regarding the proposed conduct of Ward Level Elections, scheduled to take place on the 14th day of February 2026.

Notwithstanding the emotional and financial hardship on the ordinary membership of the party, created by the several inconsistencies from the party’s leadership by a press release dated the 6th day of February, 2026, titled ‘Re: rescheduling and conduct of APC ward elections nationwide’, the Secretary General informed the public, the Political Party Registration Commission (PPRC) and the general membership of the party that the conduct of the lower level ward elections has been further rescheduled to take place on Saturday the 14th day of February, 2026.

Interesting to note is the fact that he opened the window for the payment of outstanding subscription arrears and verification of existing members of the party across all districts in the country. The call for members to pay their arrears and verify their membership in a rush with an intent to hold the elections on the 14th of February, 2026, would be seen as a deliberate attempt to not only extort monies from the poor and ordinary members of the party, but also a violation of their right to properly verify the voter register and raise petitions, if they find it necessary, in respect of issues that may emanate from the published register.

With this in mind, let me refer you to Article 54 (h) and (i), respectively, which states as follows:

“the register of eligible voters SHALL BE PUBLISHED (emphasis is mine) by the National Secretary General 21 days before the relevant convention”.

Note that the spirit of the law, as captured by Art. 54 (h) of the constitution, is stated in Paragraph (i) of the same Article. The provision gives members and contestants the right to petition the register or a name on it by filling a petition in writing to the Independent Elections Complaint Board.

Granted that 21 days window period was given during the publication of the initial voters register, the unreasonable delays and extension for the payment of arrears and verification of existing members mean the data and figures in the yet-to-be-published voter register may have changed considerably. Therefore, members of the party should be given the opportunity to properly verify any proposed final voter register with a reasonable notice, issued 21 days before the conduct of any elections. And anything less than that will be considered a blatant attempt to violate Article 54(h) and (i) of the 2022 APC Constitution supra.

Sir, I write to bring to your notice that the conduct of our lower-level ward elections in the APC across the country is a critical test to our democratic values as a party. The provisions of our constitution should be followed strictly and eligible members should be given the unfettered opportunity to exercise their rights to vote and be voted for without any attempt to violate the constitution through deceptive administrative actions and inactions.

Sir, save for the administrative inability under your watch, I have not seen any special or emergency situation within the party and in the country as a whole that is preventing your leadership from following all the due processes leading to the conduct of a transparent, free, fair and credible elections for the party.

In the circumstances, therefore, I am calling on the leadership of the party to strictly ADHERE to the provisions of the constitution and not to hold any elections that will be marred with irregularities. Such abnormalities that would lead to an influx of petitions from the membership of the party across the country.
