In a bid to drive agricultural development, foster unity within the party, and address food security concerns in Tonkolili District, the All People’s Congress (APC) launched the Tonkolili District Rice Cultivation project on Friday, 31st January 2025, at the Party’s District Office. The project, spearheaded by Dr. Samuel Bangura, District Chairman for the APC in Tonkolili District, aims to implement rice cultivation initiatives across various wards within the district, totaling an estimated cost of Nle600,000.
During the launch event, which saw the presence of party officials, stakeholders, and members of the community, Dr. Samuel Bangura highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration within the party to pave the way for a successful return to power. He emphasized the need for the party to stand together in the face of adversity and challenges faced during their time in opposition. Dr. Bangura expressed gratitude for the support he received from the Regional Chairman and other party authorities in the district, reaffirming his commitment to serving the people of Tonkolili.
Addressing the crowd, Dr. Bangura shed light on the hardships faced by residents of Tonkolili District under the current government, citing a lack of development and opportunities. He underscored the significance of the rice cultivation project as a means to empower local communities, stimulate agricultural productivity, and showcase the party’s dedication to addressing the needs of the people. The project aims to cultivate 150 acres of rice across different wards, providing a tangible solution to food scarcity and promoting self-sufficiency.
To ensure the project’s success, Dr. Bangura called upon the Party District executives, Constituency Chairmen, and Ward structures to demonstrate strong leadership and commitment. He outlined plans for appointing a Project Manager to oversee operations effectively and mentioned the financial support provided by APC Party Officials, with additional backing from Ambassador Omrie Golley of Afric-Asia Asset Holdings Limited. Ambassador Golley’s contribution of Nle150,000 towards the project was lauded as a significant step towards achieving food security and sustainable agriculture in Tonkolili District.
The formal launch of the project was officiated by Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya, National Secretary General of the APC, who described it as a groundbreaking initiative for progress and development in Tonkolili District. Stressing the vital role of agriculture in driving economic growth and community well-being, Dumbuya emphasized the project’s potential to benefit not only the district but the entire nation. He praised the efforts of Dr. Samuel Bangura and urged unity and cooperation among party members to propel the APC back to power.
Representing Ambassador Omrie Golley, Abdul Malik Bangura highlighted the strategic importance of Tonkolili District in promoting peace and stability within the nation. He pledged ongoing support for the project and emphasized the need for training local farmers in modern agricultural techniques to enhance productivity. Malik Bangura called for solidarity within the party ranks, emphasizing the importance of unity in achieving common goals and objectives.
In response to the project’s launch, stakeholders such as Samuel Serry Junior commended the initiative as a legacy project that builds upon the APC’s historical focus on agricultural development. He praised the party’s commitment to food security and acknowledged the leadership role played by Ambassador Omrie Golley in supporting such crucial initiatives.
Hon. Martin Bangura, Chairman of APC Bombali District, speaking on behalf of the Coalition of District Chairmen, expressed full support for the project and its potential to strengthen party unity. He assured that the initiative would serve as a stepping stone towards political advancement and encouraged other districts to replicate similar programs.
Hon. Aruna Papay Solomon Larkoh, Member of Parliament representing Tonkolili District, echoed his support for the project on behalf of his colleagues, emphasizing its significance in fostering closer ties among executive members and constituents. Regional Chairman Alie Commoner Kargbo reiterated the Northeast Region’s backing for the project and called for enhanced unity within the party to secure victory in future elections.
Other District Party Officials commended the project as a groundbreaking endeavor that sets a positive example for development and progress in Tonkolili District. They vowed to monitor the project closely to ensure its success and maximize agricultural output for the benefit of local communities.
