The United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has released a recent report on the alarming statistics on HIV infections among children and young people in Sierra Leone. the reports states: “Approximately 7,000 cases of HIV-infected children aged 0 to 14 years in Sierra Leone…13,000 cases among young people aged 15 to 24 years, with a significant 74% of these cases affecting girls living with HIV…”UNICEF Sierra Leone noted the importance of effective strategies that not only target HIV prevention and treatment but also prioritize the reproductive health needs of young girls.
For the past months/ years HIV/ AIDS has been topical. In line with that, few months ago, World Health Organization (WHO) released appalling report on HIV and AIDS in the country. According to the report, over 800, 000 Sierra Leoneans are battling with HIV and AIDS.
