In a landmark moment for the All People’s Congress (APC) Party, prominent lawyer and leading APC flagbearer aspirant, Lawyer Ady Macauley, received praises from APC Parliamentarians following his significant donation of 60 bags of rice to the party’s parliamentary leadership on the 24th March, 2025 at the Office of the Opposition Leader in Parliament.
Macauley’s visit was met with gratitude and admiration, with the APC Parliamentary Leader, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, commending his unwavering dedication to the party.
Hon. Kargbo acknowledged Macauley’s exceptional contributions, particularly in providing legal expertise in critical court and police cases that affected the party. The Opposition Leader in Parliament disclosed that Lawyer Ady Macauley has been the first to do such donations to APC MPs during the blessed month of Ramadan.
He emphasized that the APC remains indebted to Macauley for his service, and called for unity among party members ahead of the 2028 elections.
“It is beautiful to see members exercising their democratic rights by vying for the flagbearer position; but it would be disheartening to witness divisions within our ranks. We have already suffered enough as an opposition party,” Hon. Kargbo stated.
He urged all aspirants to prioritize party unity over personal ambition, ensuring that supporters do not engage in internal conflicts.
He further emphasized the importance of a peaceful lower-level election process, adding that once a flagbearer is chosen, every APC member should rally behind them. “The real battle is against the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). We must remain focused, and we must stand together to secure victory,” Hon. Kargbo added.
In his address, Ady Macauley expressed gratitude for the warm reception and reiterated his commitment to the APC and the country.
Reflecting on his advocacy against the Proportional Representation (PR) system, he highlighted the diversity of APC Parliamentarians, who come from every region and ethnic background in Sierra Leone, as a testament to the party’s national character.
“Our country is predominantly made up of young people, and even in traditional leadership, youth representation is rising. This shows that generational leadership is happening, and I believe it will reach the highest office in the land—the State House,” Macauley declared.
He affirmed his ambition to lead the APC and ultimately the country, emphasizing that his visit was about showing appreciation rather than seeking favours. He acknowledged the challenges Parliamentarians face, often bearing the brunt of public scrutiny, and said that their relentless efforts should not go unnoticed.
Macauley also reminded Parliamentarians that his support for them is not new, recalling how he provided legal representation in cases that helped reinstate APC MPs following their removal after the 2018 elections. “We must work together for the greater good of the party and the country,” he said.
The donation of rice was not just a gesture of goodwill but also a symbol of solidarity with APC Parliamentarians, who play a crucial role in shaping the party’s governance.
Hon. Abdul Kargbo thanked Macauley for being the first and only aspirant to visit and make such a contribution, describing it as a sign of true leadership.
“As we move forward, we must continue working hand in hand. The APC’s future lies in the hands of young, dynamic leaders who are ready to answer the call of history,” he said.
Macauley’s visit has set a precedent, reinforcing the need for party unity and support among members. His dedication, leadership, and vision have undoubtedly strengthened his position as a formidable contender in the APC’s race for flagbearer.
As the party prepares for the 2028 elections, the message from APC Parliamentarians is clear: unity, strategy, and strong leadership are the keys to victory.
And as of now, Ady Macauley appears to be leading that charge.
