East End Lions FC have surged to the top of the Leone Rock Premier League table after Match-week 29, positioning themselves as firm favourites to lift the 2024/25 title. With an impressive 63 points from 29 games, the Freetown-based club has built a strong lead over their closest challengers and now stand on the brink of championship success.
The Lions’ consistent performance this season has been marked by 19 victories, 4 draws, and just 6 losses—a record that has seen them dominate the league. Their defensive solidity has been a cornerstone of their success, having conceded only 17 goals all season, the fewest in the league. This statistic underlines their status as the most balanced and disciplined team in the competition.
With only one match-week remaining, East End Lions hold a 7-point lead over second-placed Bhantal FC, who sit on 56 points. Although mathematically still in the race, Bhantal’s hopes rest on a slip-up from the league leaders and an exceptional performance on the final day. Third-placed FC Kallon, currently on 53 points, would need a miracle to snatch the title, but they remain in contention for a top-two finish.
As the battle for the title nears its end, the spotlight also shines on the dramatic relegation battle unfolding at the bottom of the table. Kamboi Eagles FC and Mighty Blackpool FC are both locked on 30 points, with Bullom Stars FC trailing slightly behind with 28 points. The final match-day will be crucial for these clubs, as a single result could determine their survival or drop into the lower division.
Mighty Blackpool, one of the country’s most historic clubs, will be especially desperate to avoid the drop. A poor run of form has placed them in a precarious position, and their fans will be hoping for a last-minute revival. Similarly, Kamboi Eagles and Bullom Stars have all to play for as they fight for safety.
The 2024/25 Leone Rock Premier League season has delivered thrilling action, with fierce competition at both ends of the table. From East End Lions’ dominant charge towards the title to the nail-biting battle for survival, the league has showcased the depth and intensity of Sierra Leonean football.
As the final round approaches, fans across the country are gearing up for a dramatic conclusion. All eyes will be on whether East End Lions can seal the title and whether the traditional powerhouses at the bottom can avoid relegation.
Whatever the outcome, this season has already made history for its unpredictability, passion, and the rising standard of football on display.
