Sierra Leone’s Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, has signed a transformative Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Agilix Labs, Inc., a leading U.S.-based educational technology company, to establish the Future Learning Institute (FLI)—a pioneering initiative poised to revolutionise vocational and higher education in Sierra Leone through the use of Artificial Intelligence.

The signing took place at Lancaster House in central London during the just-concluded 2025 Education World Forum (EWF), the world’s largest annual gathering of education ministers and global policy leaders. The agreement launches a strategic partnership between the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education and Agilix Labs, marking a significant step toward integrating AI into curriculum development, tutoring, assessment, and instructional support.

Under the terms of the MoU, Agilix Labs will provide advanced AI-powered infrastructure for the Future Learning Institute, including authoring tools, intelligent tutoring platforms, assessment technologies, and course delivery systems. The company will also support implementation through training workshops and operational resources. Meanwhile, the Ministry will host FLI facilities, oversee financial and grant management, and promote FLI activities nationwide.

Minister Wurie described the agreement as “a significant step forward in Sierra Leone’s educational resurgence and increasing global recognition,” emphasising the country’s commitment to acquiring and utilising modern, technology-driven learning methods.

Signing on behalf of Agilix Labs was Curt Allen, President, CEO, and Co-founder of the company, which has developed acclaimed platforms such as the internationally recognised Buzz and TutorKit, used by educational institutions worldwide. He praised Sierra Leone’s educational ambition, stating that Agilix is “proud to partner with Sierra Leone on the remarkable journey to empower its citizens and reclaim its historic role as a leading centre of education on the African continent.”

The FLI initiative is set to position Sierra Leone at the forefront of educational innovation in West Africa, reflecting a broader national commitment to building a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready learning ecosystem.
This aligns with the broader national vision of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, who has consistently emphasised education as a key driver for achieving Sierra Leone’s development goals.
