18th August 2023, Maryland, USA
The Vice-Chancellor of the Milton Margai Technical University Prof Philip John Kanu was showered with acclaim, honor, and respect by the Milton Margai Alumni USA Chapter for his unique reform within the institution at this year’s annual meet and greet organized by the group.
The meeting brought together alumni from across America and beyond to grace the occasion. The Annual Meet and Greet is a yearly event organized by the Alumni to meet and share accounts of their student days, but this year’s event was quite different, the VC of the university was added to the purpose of the event as the keynote speaker to update the group on the status of the institution. The group thanked the VC for his Sterling service and the remarkable transformation made within the institution in terms of the academic standards set, infrastructural growth, and the transformation of the institution to a Technical University.
The Alumni promised to give back to the institution, by working together with the administration to reach that higher height. The group expressed gratitude for having Prof Kanu as one of them heading the institution. The Vice-Chancellor is presently in the United States of America, lobbying to collaborate and create a partnership with other learning institutions for staff upgrades, scholarship opportunities, and lecture assistance virtually.
During his Keynote address, Prof Kanu noted that the Meet and Greet was essential because it always reunites them and refreshes memories, he described the occasion as a great day not only for him but for the institution. He thanked the Alumni for the respect accorded him and assured them that he will not fail them.
The VC explained the various faces the institution had gone through to its present status as a Technical University, re-echoing the background of the transformative drive. He spoke with humility and a deep sense of enthusiasm to lead the institution and deliver on his mandate.
Prof Kanu spoke strongly about misconduct within the institution, which has to do with sex for grades, change of grades, and staff absence from duty, noting that his administration will fall heavily on anyone who falls short. He shared with the Alumni the five objectives of the institution and a bid to decentralize the university so that everyone can have access to quality education which is in line with the President’s vision of addressing the middle-level manpower and human capital development in the country.
Members of the Alumni decorated Prof Kanu and his family with honor for the tremendous work he has done and continues to do for the university.
The meet and greet climaxed with the singing of the university anthem and celebration. For More Enquiries:
