The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay Esq., Tuesday, 8 April 2025, at the Atlantic Hotel- Aberdeen in Freetown, delivered remarks at the opening session of the three-day Working Group Meeting on the ECOWAS Regional Trafficking in Persons Plus Strategy in Freetown.

Attorney General Sesay highlighted the need for Sierra Leone’s efforts to align with regional strategies, acknowledging trafficking as a transnational issue that requires cross-border cooperation. “Trafficking in persons is a crime that doesn’t respect borders. It’s a regional response from all member states,” he stated.

In addition, during his visit to the Gbalamuya border crossing on 26 March 2025, Attorney General Sesay met with NRA Assistant Commissioner, John B. Amara, to discuss border control protocols and the need for enhanced inter-agency collaboration to address transnational crimes.

At the meeting, he reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to a victim-centered approach, prioritizing the recovery and reintegration of trafficking survivors, while ensuring the provision of necessary support services.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to adopting unified regional strategies, aimed at improving responses to human trafficking and delivering justice to victims. “Every victim rescued and reintegrated is a life restored to hope and humanity,” Sesay emphasized.

Under Attorney General Alpha Sesay’s leadership, Sierra Leone remains dedicated to combating human trafficking and ensuring accountability for perpetrators.
