Bai Mahmoud Bangura, the National Organising Secretary of the All Peoples Congress (APC), has announced his official return to office following his exoneration by the High Court of Sierra Leone. Justice Komba Kamanda presided over the ruling, which cleared Bangura of all charges, including treason, stemming from the failed coup attempt of November 26, 2023.
Bangura, who faced an arduous legal battle and significant health challenges during his trial, expressed gratitude for the court’s decision and shared that he has made a full recovery. His return is set for Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 11 AM, marking his official resumption of duties as the party’s National Organising Secretary.
“I am ready and fit to continue my responsibilities. I am optimistic that my return will contribute to the effective functioning of the Secretariat as we work towards strengthening and unifying the party for the challenges ahead,” Bangura said in a statement addressed to Comrade Lansana Dumbuya.
Bangura’s arrest in 2023 plunged the APC into a period of uncertainty. His reinstatement is seen as a significant step towards consolidating leadership within the party as it prepares for future political engagements
