The President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA), Madam Tuma Adama Gento Kamara joined national leaders and dignitaries at the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces Remembrance Day Service, held at the Ministerial Building on George Street in Freetown. The solemn occasion paid tribute to the brave men and women of the armed forces who lost their lives in the line of duty.
During the ceremony, Madam Gento Kamara was given the honor of laying a wreath on behalf of the Sierra Leone Bar Association in memory of fallen soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of peace, freedom, and national security. The act symbolized the Association’s deep respect and gratitude for the country’s servicemen and women.
The Remembrance Day Service is an annual event observed across Commonwealth nations to honor the sacrifices of military personnel who died during World War I, World War II, and other conflicts and military operations. The day serves as a solemn reminder of the courage, dedication, and patriotism of those who fought and died for the ideals of peace and national unity.
Representatives from various government institutions, the diplomatic corps, civil society organizations, and the security sector attended the ceremony, which featured prayers, hymns, and moments of silence in memory of the departed soldiers. The gathering reflected the nation’s collective commitment to remembering and honoring those who served with courage and selflessness.
Speaking after the ceremony, Madam Kamara expressed her appreciation for the service and sacrifice of Sierra Leone’s military personnel, both past and present. She extended the Bar Association’s gratitude to the men and women of the armed forces for their unwavering dedication to the nation.
“We appreciate and celebrate you for your dedication and commitment to serving our country, Sierra Leone,” she said. “We continue to remember those who have died in the line of duty, and we honor their courage and the values they stood for.”
Madam Kamara further noted that the peace and stability Sierra Leone enjoys today are built on the foundation laid by the country’s armed forces. She emphasized the importance of remembering their contributions not only on Remembrance Day but throughout the year, as a way of inspiring future generations to uphold the values of service, loyalty, and patriotism.
The event concluded with closing prayers and the national anthem, as attendees reflected on the significance of sacrifice and service to the nation. For the Sierra Leone Bar Association, the day reaffirmed a shared national responsibility to honor the memory of fallen heroes while supporting the men and women who continue to defend and serve Sierra Leone with courage and pride.
