The ‘Grade A’ Benevolent Islamic Secondary School was founded by the Sierra Leone Muslim Women’s Brotherhood Mission in 1979.

Over the years, the school has excelled in public examinations due to discipline, hard work, zero tolerance against examination malpractices and extortion of pupils and parents. This has resulted to most of the pupils excelling in the top three universities in Makeni City.

Another novelty of the school is that during examinations, it conducts classes till 9pm as the school has solar lights in addition to teachers covering all the syllabuses with the principal in charge of all examinations.

The chairman of the school’s Board of Governors, Professor Philip John Kanu who is also Vice Chancellor and Principal of the Milton Margai Technical University and an old boy of the school revealed that sports brings people together and commended the pupils for comporting themselves. He also observed that the school has produced quality pupils who are holding key positions in society underscoring that teaching is a sacrifice.

He furthered that due to his position he is supporting all the four houses.

Highlights of the well-attended event were the presentation of trophies, cash prizes and certificates as well as teaching and learning materials donated by the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education to various athletes, houses and teachers.

The presentations were done by several dignitaries including Dr. Philip John Kanu, Mr. Umaru of the Sierra Leone Teachers Union, North, Mr. Umaru Fofanah of the BBC in Sierra Leone and the Chief Administrator of the Karene District Council.
