Better Life 4 Kids Foundation has appealed for more support to save lives of vulnerable children in and out of Freetown. He appeal was made during their fundraising dinner and dance at Radisson Blu Hotel on the 27th January, 2024.
In her presentation, the Founder and Executive Director of Better Life 4 Kids Foundation Madam Mariama Musa emphasized that the gathering was not just about coming together for a meal; but was about coming together as a community united by a common cause – to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children.
“First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to every one of you for being here tonight. Your presence alone speaks volumes about your commitment to our cause and your willingness to support those in need. It is your generosity and compassion that fuel the engine of change and enable us to make a positive impact on the lives of others,” she said.
She went on to say that they have a vital mission: to raise funds for children whose lives have been challenged by various illnesses and are at the point of death. This cause, she added is close to their hearts because it represents hope, opportunity, and the chance for a brighter future.
“Whether it’s providing education to underprivileged children, supporting families in crisis, or aiding children will health challenges, every penny raised tonight will make a tangible difference in someone’s life.”
The Founder shared a story about Tamba that exemplifies the transformative power of their collective efforts. “Tamba, is a story like this that reminds us why we’re here tonight and inspires us to dig deep and give generously. Now, more than ever, the world needs kindness, compassion, and solidarity. Each of us has the power to be a catalyst for change, and tonight, we have the opportunity to make a real difference. I urge you to open your hearts and your wallets, to give generously, and to support our cause in whatever way you can,” she stated.
She expressed thanks and appreciation to their sponsors, volunteers, and everyone who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make that event possible as their dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed, and they are incredibly grateful for their unwavering support.
“As we enjoy this wonderful meal together, let’s not forget the reason we are here. Let’s celebrate the power of community, the spirit of giving, and the boundless potential we have to create positive change in the world. Together, we can light up the darkness, bring hope to the hopeless, and make a lasting impact that transcends borders and boundaries. In her keynote address, Madam Simiti Lavalie, Commissioner Children’s Commission, described the story of Tamba as a touching one.
She spoke about some of the fundamental human rights that protects children such as The Child Right Act of 2007.
She emphasized that it is the responsibility of the state to provide the opportunity for child health care.
“Government has the responsibility for the right to health of every child. We have visited places where children have health issues. Until we improve our health care system, the nurses and salaries we will not more forwards,” she stated.
She emphasized that they should challenge themselves for access to health care services. “If we use the energy we use for women’s right to children’s right, we would have seen a lot of changes. I challenge all of you, if they see children as their future to ensure that their parents support them by ensuring that they have the rights information to get access. We need to improve on our health care system,” she stated.
Madam Martha Thorpe, Program Director King’s Partnership in her talked on the impact of children in equality and poverty said many children lacks access to basic health care, shortage of qualified medical personnel, despite the free medical initiative been implemented in 2010 there are several challenges facing parents.
Madam Millicent Cole of Rokel Commercial Bank commended Mariama and her team for taking up such task.
She emphasized that what they are doing is not only to preserve lives but also saving the future of Sierra Leone, as no one knows what God has destiny them to become.
