Sierra Leone’s fastest growing foundation “Big Apple” family has extended hands of generosity to hundreds of homeless people across different sections of Freetown with a well-prepared meal.
According to Big Apple Foundation, the motive behind such gesture is to alleviate poverty and hunger among the homeless around PZ, Wilberforce, Lumley and its environs.
The organization also engaged in the sharing of peace and non-violence messages ahead of June polls.
The Big Apple Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has set up a catering outfit for the needy, homeless, and challenging areas of Freetown to mitigate the menace of hunger related crimes in Freetown.
Speaking on the strategic objective of Big Apple Foundation, the Executive Director, Joseph Patrick, said, “we exist as a foundation as an answer to the calls of many Sierra Leoneans in poverty and hunger. Many who have jobs are still unable to eat.” He described the venture as a sacrifice done by patriotic and selfless Sierra Leoneans from across the world, who believe in serving humanity with passion of changing lives.
“No medication in the world can cure hunger and given this little help to our people, gives us the greatest joy, Mr. Patrick observed.
It was a huge crowd during the Easter celebration as physically challenged and homeless from various joint were served with well-prepared meal dished out to them on a first come first serve basis.
One of Big Apple Foundation Coordinators, Sister Martha disclosed plans by the organization to operate as a full-fledged homeless shelter saying, “where homeless can come in and sleep, get up in the morning and go about their day-to-day activities and come back to sleep at night. “We are not only looking at feeding people but also see how we can empower them through vocational training skills, which will also serve as a rehabilitation center.
The Spokesperson of Foundation, Apostle Solomon Kalokoh said many have viewed the foundation as money laundering enterprise but noted that Big Apple is far from that line.
He said Big Apple is a total sacrificial and committed patriotic human service to the nation and people. We believe only in human changes.
Chairlady of the physically challenged and homeless, Madam Kadiatu Sesay thanked Big Apple for such patriotic gesture. She said this kind of blessings demonstrated that people in society still considered them as humans.
She reassured Big Apple that they will work towards nonviolence and always keep the peace.
