Freetown, Sierra Leone – The President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, has appointed the Minister of Sports, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh, as the Chairman of the National Sport Authority of Sierra Leone in accordance with Section 3(3) of the National Sport Authority Act, 2017. However, the appointment is still subject to the approval of Parliament.
The National Sport Authority is charged with the responsibility of developing, promoting, and regulating sports in the country. It also oversees the development of sports infrastructure and the organization and participation of Sierra Leone in national and international sports competitions.
The President’s decision to appoint Nyelenkeh as the Chairman of the National Sport Authority has received widespread praise from stakeholders in the sports sector. They believe that Nyelenkeh’s appointment will help to accelerate the development of sports in Sierra Leone and attract investment into the sector.
The appointment of Nyelenkeh will now be reviewed by the Committee of Appointment and Parliamentary Sports Committee to determine his suitability for the position. If approved by Parliament, Nyelenkeh will assume his duties as the Chairman of the National Sport Authority and work towards improving the sports sector in Sierra Leone.
