Newly Appointed Statistician-General of Statistics Sierra Leone, Anderw Bob Johnny on Thursday 2nd February 2023 taken the leadership position of the institution, at a transition ceremony which took place at Stats S/L Conference room at Statistics Sierra Leone headquarters in Freetown.
Speaking at the occasion Johnny expressed for his new position SG in the country saying that he ready to lead.
He said that he has served the institution for twenty-nine years (29), adding that he joined Statistics Sierra Leone as an ordinary cartographer in 1994.
The SG said he as worked very hard under the former SG Prof Osman Sankoh since 2019, adding that prior to that he served as the Director of Census and GIS for fifteen (15) years.
Giving background of education, Andrew Bob Johny said he holds a Master’s Degree in Geo-Information Management, from the Institute of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) in the Netherland.
Bob Johnny noted that staying at Stats SL enabled him to see the good and the ugly of the institution, wherein most of this colleague left.
He thanked the president Bio for appointing him as Statistician General.
He also thanked the Stats SL Council, for the position and promised that he is ready to give his best to the institution.
In his statement, outgoing Statistician-General Prof. Osman Sankoh (Malam O) stated that he is very happy to hand over his tenure and smooth Transition to he’s former Deputy now appointed by President Bio and am glad that he will hard another value to the intuition.
Prof. Sankoh cleared the air that he was not sacked. “My tenure has ended and is time for me to give level playing field to another promising man who has worked with me for a long time at Stats SL. I am very happy to come to Sierra Leone to work at this great institution for five years and have transformed Stats-SL”. He added that in life everyone has time and mine has ended as Stats SL SG.
He told journalists that the new SG is he’s former Deputy who oversee the Mid-Term Census 2021, adding that he has work with a man who also made the work easier for Stats SL.
Prof. Sankoh furthered that over five years he was able to work in Sierra Leone as the SG through an advert he saw, applied and interview then got the job.
He said when took over at Statistics Sierra Leone, it was a dumping ground, but he transformed, which is the best to offer his country.
He also expressed delight that Andrew has been appointed by the first gentleman of the country, adding that he is proud of him as he I know and believe that he can deliver.
