The Calaba Town Police have made a significant breakthrough in their ongoing campaign against the illegal drug trade with the arrest of a man found in possession of a large quantity of suspected Kush, a synthetic substance wreaking havoc among Sierra Leone’s youth.

According to police sources, the operation was carried out under the leadership of the Officer Commanding Calaba Town Police Station, ASP Saccoh Kabbie Kharr. The arrest was the result of a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation that targeted suspected drug peddlers in the eastern part of Freetown.

The suspect, identified as Abdulrahman Conteh of No. 45 Kinson Road, Kissy, was apprehended following a tip-off from a credible informant. Acting swiftly on the information received, ASP Kharr and his team launched a targeted raid that led to Conteh’s capture.

During the search, officers discovered five hundred and sixty (560) wraps of dried leaves believed to be Kush carefully concealed in plastic bags. The substance has been sent for forensic analysis to determine its exact composition.

ASP Kharr explained that the success of the operation demonstrates the police’s continued vigilance and commitment to combating the drug menace that has plagued many communities across the city. He emphasized that the fight against Kush and other harmful substances remains one of the Sierra Leone Police’s top priorities, especially given the devastating impact of these drugs on young people.

“This arrest sends a strong message to all those involved in the illegal drug business,” ASP Kharr stated. “We will continue to intensify our operations and ensure that those dealing in Kush and other narcotics face the full force of the law.”

Following the arrest, the suspect and the seized exhibits were transferred to the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) for further investigation. The move, according to police officials, is part of efforts to ensure a thorough and transparent process that will help bring all those connected to the case to justice.

Residents of Calaba Town have commended the police for their proactive efforts in tackling the surge of drug-related activities in the area. Many noted that Kush abuse has contributed to a rise in social problems, including crime, violence, and mental health issues among young people.

Community members also called for stronger collaboration between the police, civil society, and local authorities to curb the spread of synthetic drugs in Freetown and other parts of the country. They expressed hope that this latest arrest will serve as a deterrent to others involved in the illicit trade.

Meanwhile, police sources have confirmed that investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the drugs and identify other individuals who may be part of the distribution network.

The Sierra Leone Police continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking and abuse. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting citizens from the harmful effects of illicit substances.
