Abu Turay alias Sogor a caretaker, Amadu Basco Bangura a cleaner, Engine Badu Siah a driver made their first appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba road court No.1 in Freetown on two count charges to wit Conspiracy to commit a crime contrary to law and Larceny contrary to section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, on diverse dates between 1 to 18 March 2024 at Lagoonda Complex Hotel, 80 Cape Road Aberdeen the Western Area in Freetown conspired together and with other persons unknown to commit a crime to wit Larceny.
On count two, on the above date and place they stole four hundred litres of diesel fuel value twelve thousand Leones (Le12, 000) property of the Management of Lagoonda Complex Hotel.
Inspector Sellu TAP Led prosecution witness No.1 Savin Suhas, the general manager at Lagoonda Hotel. He recognized the accused persons in the dock as an employee and caretaker at the said hotel. He recalled on the 1st to 18th March 2024 something transferred between himself and the accused persons on the above date around 6:30 in the morning hours the first accused person supposed to buy the fuel on Saturday morning but the accused person later came around 10am going to 11am.
The accused person collected twelve thousand Leones for four hundred litres of fuel. The accused person came with the receipt of the fuel
He brought, and he attached it at his wall chart the said receipt was produce in court for identification the voucher for the said fuel was produce and tendered in court. At this juncture, the Prosecutor sought for a short adjournment date.
Counsel representing the accused persons Ibrahim S Y Kamara and Gladis Gbongon Esq applied for bail for and on behalf of the accused persons that they have reliable sureties who are willing and ready to go into recognisance on their behalf they’re not a flight risk nor will they interfere with prosecution witness or witnesses nor will they jump bail they have a fixed aboard where they can be reached she made her application pursuant to section 79 (2) of the Criminal procedure Act No.32 of 1965.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Kekura refused bail and sent the accused persons to the male correctional facility in Freetown. The matter has been adjourned to the 8th April 2024.
