Freetown, Sierra Leone, Sam Sesay a twenty-two years old caretaker on Wednesday, 16 October, 1024, made his final appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.2 in Freetown on two count charges to wit Conspiracy to commit a crime contrary to law and Larceny contrary to section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offence on Tuesday 20 August 204 at No. 5 Springer Street off Johnson Street Aberdeen in the Western Area in Freetown conspired together and with other persons unknown to commit a crime to wit Larceny.
Count two further stated that on the same date and place the accused person stole the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand Leones (150, 000.00) property of Joan Keister.
When the charges was read and explained to the accused person he pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Assistant Superintendent of Police Juan M. S. Bull maintained that this is not a court of emotion, but a court of law and this should serve as deterrent for others who wished to do likewise. She begged for a maximum sentence since the accused person has failed to return the money and cause a lot of trauma to the complainant as the said money is not hers.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Bangura echoed the fact that the accused person who stole the money was confirmed by his younger brother. He noted that it clearly shown that the accused and his friends conspired together to steal the money.
Bangura ruled that he found the accused person on both count charges because he has not returned the said money and found him guilty.
However, Magistrate Bangura considered the act of the accused and must serve as deterrent for others by sentencing the accused person to four years on each count charge for eight years imprisonment.
