Today, Ambassador Wang Qing, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sierra Leone, paid a farewell visit to the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Hon. Chernor Bah, at the Minister’s office, 8th Floor, Youyi Building, Brookfields, Freetown.

As his two-and-a-half–year diplomatic tenure comes to an end, Ambassador Wang Qing expressed deep gratitude to the Minister and the entire Ministry for the cordial partnership and strong friendship they have nurtured over the years. He reminisced on his engagements with the Minister since the establishment of the Ministry in 2023, highlighting the various programmes, initiatives, and collaborative activities that strengthened the relationship between the Ministry and the Chinese Embassy.

The Ambassador commended the Ministry for its professionalism and cooperation, noting that Sierra Leone has become a “second home” to him. He assured the Minister that China’s support to the Ministry will continue, and that his successor will build on the strong foundation that has been laid.

Hon. Chernor Bah, in his response, expressed heartfelt appreciation and surprise at the Ambassador’s imminent departure, noting that he had not expected such short notice. He thanked Ambassador Wang Qing for his warmth, dedication, and the outstanding partnership enjoyed throughout his tenure.

The Minister fondly recalled that Ambassador Wang Qing was among the very first diplomats to visit him upon his assumption of office in 2023, offering support and a commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation. Since then, the Embassy has consistently supported the Ministry through capacity-building trainings for staff and journalists, financial support towards refurbishing the Press Conference Room, and several other initiatives that have contributed to the Ministry’s growth and effectiveness.

On behalf of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, the Ministry, and the people of Sierra Leone, Minister Bah extended profound gratitude to Ambassador Wang Qing. He bid him a warm farewell and wished him every success in his new assignment, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding friendship between Sierra Leone and the People’s Republic of China.
