The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Sierra Leone Monday 30th June, 2020 awarded the Chinese Ambassador scholarships to twenty Universities and college student and Ambassador’s grants to ninety needy students during a ceremony held at premises of the diplomatic in Freetown.
Speaking at the occasion, H.E. Ambassador Hu congratulated the students for being fortunate to get the scholarships and grants, indicating that against the COVID-19 pandemic, the offers were meant to support the tertiary education and the “free quality education” flagship programme of the government of H.E. President Julius Maada Bio.
The twenty University and college awardees were drawn from among students with excellent academic performances from the University of Sierra Leone, Njala University, University of Makeni and Milton Margai College of Education and Technology etc. were awarded the Chinese Ambassador Scholarships.
Also as part of effort towards boosting the free quality education, ninety needy students from several primary and secondary schools were awarded the Chinese Ambassador Grants.
Statements of good will of the Government and people of the PRC as well of H.E. Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Hu Zhangliang were made by Hon. Prof. Aiah Gbakima, Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Prof. Foday Sahr, Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of Sierra Leone, Mr. Joe Conteh, Chairman of Sierra Leone-China Friendship Society and the awardees respectively.
